the batman

the joker
i caught The Dark Knight with the girl on friday night. i've been clamouring to watch it for a long time.
its a haunted film that leaps beyond its origins and becomes a very engrossing tragedy
my honest opinion? its totally totally awesome. bale as batman was electrifying. while heath ledger as the joker was simply astounding. its amazing how he actually portrayed it so brilliantly.
batman and joker also have so much chemistry on screen that its hard to take your eyes off of their riveting conversations.
aaron eckhart as harvey dent/twoface was very good. we see how he transforms from a crime fighter to a deranged criminal. the metamorphosis was to put it simply, beautiful.
but i didnt like it when he died in the movie. i really thought that he would play a bigger part in the future batman shows.
its wondrous how the loss of a loved one can change your life so dramatically. i dont blame him. if i too, found out that my loved one had been killed by those whom i had fought for, those whom i have protected, i believe i too would have gone on a murderous revenge spree.

from start to end, the joker was brilliance personified. the way he manipulated things, the way he toyed around with people's minds with consummate ease. the way he enjoys getting beaten up by batman, knowing that he's actually twisting batman's mind. now we as the audience are supposed to hate this kind of low life scum. but i actually found myself liking the joker! no joke here.
i gotta admit. heath ledger really made The Joker his own. it wasnt ledger you saw on screen, it was THE JOKER, a character so beautifully fleshed out from within.
his presence was captivating. he delved into being psychotic, unreadable and unexpected. his emotions and expressions as well, strong and controlling. the maniacal gaze of his eyes, the constant flicks of his tongue, his voice, his laughter, all brought you to attention.
now the joker isnt your run-of-the-mill type of supervillain. he kills and robs and plays scheming mind games with his enemies, yes. but the way he does it, you really have to applaud him. what he desires to gain with his little games is for everybody to crash and burn. he just wants to see the world burn.

it was a heart thumping experience from the get go. and it wasnt all about the action either! the feelings and emotions, the conversations between everybody in the movie. it all fell into place perfectly.
really. everybody should go watch it. its this year's best show yet. just like the movie of last year was Transformers, the movie of the year is The Dark Knight. no competition, it wins hands down. the only regret i have is that Heath Ledger, the brilliant actor who played The Joker, isnt with us anymore as he passed away due to an accidental overdose. my heart goes out to you Mr Ledger, you have left a wonderful legacy of work for generations to admire. RIP
